PRO PLAN DOG Purina Pro Plan Small and Mini Adult 9 : Good for older dogswho are 9+

Our jack russell is now 17, having been fed on age-related versions of this product since birth.

I will start by saying that our dog does seem to like and eat this – which is a good start. I am conerned that this product is marketed and sold as a premium product, but the ingredients do not match this claim. The ingredients seem to be more akin to the cheap brands. It’s a difficult one – the dog likes it but my expectations are higher than the reality of this food.

Easy to use, you just open the packet, no preparation or complicated serving instructions here. My previous food required such complex preparation i’m surprised they didn’t go next door to get fed. Our dogs were a bit sniffy at first, but when i added some steak and gravy, they wolfed it all down.So go one, don’t skimp on the doggies in your life, give them the best.

Comments from buyers

“Complete OPTI-nutrition dry pet food with OptiAge for older (9+ years) small & mini dogs (up to 10kg), Decent food for our ageing Jack Russell, A highly recommended dog food for your older dog.”

This has been thoroughly enjoyed by my pug. The kibble is a small size and a good texture for older dogs ( my boy has lost a few teeth). The food smells ok, for dog food, and seems to be appetising as my boy can’t wait to devour the contents of his bowl. The resulting matter ( which as i responsible dog owner i pick up so is important to know about) is easy to pick up and shows no problems with digestion.

With a reliable pet food product name like purina it is not surprising to find that this complete pet food is a highly nutritious product. It is not just great for small or mini puppies but can also be fed to gestating or lactating mothers to support their developing puppies natural defence system.

Great dog food from a trusted name. I’m a big fan of the purina range. Or should that be that my dogs are a big fan of it. You’re getting a trusted name and a feed that is full of all the right ingredients. This is targeted to the older dogs but i can’t see any reason why it couldn’t be used as feed for other dogs. The ingredients would suit all. Another winning product from purina.

This is a good quality dry food from purina. The kibbles are suitably sized for dogs to chew easily and the ingredients listed should ensure good health in the future. It is suitable as the main course or can also be used as a mixer. To maintain freshness the food is supplied in a resealable bag.

My aging pooch certainly wolfed down (pun intended) this dogfood. I am not sure i’d keep buying it as it seems quite pricey for the volume of the product and whilst my mutt has happily chomped his way through the bag i’ve not noticed a discernible change in his demeanour.

Purina is a fantastic company, their products are vet recommended and are always a favourite with our dogs who clear their bowls every time, this product is specifically for older smaller dogs so less protein and calories which is great.

Good feed but expensive for what’s in it. Dogs tend on the whole to less discerning than some other animals so we decided to give purina a chance. While our dog ate it i could tell they were not entirely sure why we tried something new, so there must have been something different about it. We decided to mix it with some other we had of another brand it didn’t seem to bother our dog as much. One thing i did notice was how much “packing” is in the food. There is a lot of ingredients that are often used in cheap human food to pack it out, such as soya and other dehydrated foods. I’m sure that soya is not going to do harm to a dog in the long term it’s not something i’m entirely happy about feeding my dog every day. There are much more meat rich, less “packing” dry animal feeds out there, especially when you consider that this is a premium brand that carries a premium price tag. It’s ok but it’s expensive for what it is and i think that in future i’ll be a bit of more careful about choosing a better value feed.

Great dog food for small mouths. Like all purina dog food, this is always liked by the dogs. It smells good and the kibble is a small size for smaller mouths. Our german shepherd wanted a look in too, but be careful with larger dogs eating this – as the small size in her big mouth made her choke a few times as it was getting caught in her throat. As always, every bit of this was eaten so i’m presuming it was tasty.

Excellent dog feed for older small dogs. Very good quality ‘dry’ dog food with a decent meat content. Ideal for ageing, smaller dogs with a very good mix of nutrients. Used regularly we finf this line of feed is great for a dog’s on-going health. Bit pricey but when we use pro plan in particular, we find our dogs fill up quicker so you use less, which makes it more economical and you are guaranteed a good quality feed. We use a wide range of this ‘opti’ line of products and you get good sized food chunks for whatever dog size your particular type of pro plan is targeted at- it’s not too dry and smells pleasantly meaty- and for ease of use it comes in good, sturdy, resealable plastic bags. Never had any problems with purina dog food and this line is an excellent one. If your dog takes to it, you’re on a winner.

We tried this food with a very fussy one-year-old cockapoo. He’s tried all sorts of foods- james wellbeloved, eukanaba, bakers- all of which he’s snubbed. But to our delight, he seemed very happy with this. Mixed in with some meat, the whole lot went within seconds. Giving him a little more, the bowl was licked clean. He even smuggled some outside, which he only usually does with treats, so it must have been delicious. The design of the bag is particularly good. The corner section rips off, which creates a spout. This makes pouring the food into the bowl without spilling it everywhere very easy.

Decent food for our ageing jack russell. Purina pro plan dog small and mini adult with optihealth rich in chicken dry food – 3 kgthis is one of purina’s new tailored diet products for dogs. I have tried a lot of the range on my and my parents dogsingredients. The ingredients are listed on the back. I always look for the ash content as this is an indicator of the amount of non-nutritional filler used. In this product it is 7% which is quite low compared to cheaper foods. I wish manufacturers would be clearer about the ingredients as there are three separate listings in this food about the actual ingredients. It does contain wheat and soya protein which should be noted if you dog has an allergy problem with either ingredients. The food comes in a resalable strong bag for easy storage and decanting.

Great quality premium food for your smaller pet. I’m something of a fan of purina’s proplan products. This product is aimed at smaller dogs with a few years under their collar. We’ve got just such a dog in our family, a jack russell who is getting along in years but isn’t as yet what i’d describe as being ancient. She isn’t in the first flush of youth but nor has she become totally sedentary. So i was happy to test this out on her, with the acceptability being first and foremost the criteria that’s important here. Bowls of the food get eaten happily and she likes the consistenly of the food. It’s not teeth-shatteringly hard, which is definitely a concern when it’s a senior dog who may have teeth which are becoming a little more brittle. The smell isn’t offensive at all.

Premium cost product, suits older dogs, content doesn’t match price though. . This was tested on an elderly jack russell who gave it a definite ok. It has a reasonably good proportion of chicken and rice (nearly 1/5 of the total ingredients) to be gentle on ageing tummies, although not as much chicken as many premium brands. The small kibbles won’t be too much of a challenge for older teeth, they also have a slightly greasy, softer texture – they are high in fat at 17%, so perhaps aren’t quite as suited to pets who need to watch their weight. Having said all that, they were enjoyed by this ageing little dog, his tummy tolerated them well, despite the extra greasiness. The down side of this is the price. This costs more than frozen chicken breasts at the local discounter. Is it worth it- well, no, frankly. Your dog will probably enjoy this, and if he or she is an ageing dog with a poor appetite then anything that gets them eating with relish is welcome. Your pocket will probably lead you to look elsewhere.

Purina pro plan dog small and min adult 9+. I’ve been using this product for a while now and my pug seems to be extremely happy with it and i am too. She is older and was getting slower and slower as well as sleeping a lot, i’ve noticed that she is much more active and seems to be more alert, she was getting very slow, she is 11 and showing her age now and i think this product seems to suit her very well. The company indicate that it is a balanced meal directed at her size. The biscuits are quite small and easy to crunch especially as she has already lost some teeth, i use it as a complete meal and don’t add anything else. It comes in a sturdy packet and with a seal at the top which means that there is less chance of spilling everything if knocked and keeps the goodness in. Maybe for the reasons above i should try it too, might speed me up.

This is another great purina food. Our dogs like all of the purina dog food. My only quibble is that sometimes the kibble is very small but in other bags it’s twice the size. My dogs still eat it just fine, but the inconsistency is a little irritating. Anyway that small gripe aside, this is good for our dogs digestive systems and it smells okay unlike some other brands.
